Schmidt was the pianist and founding member of the German avant-garde group CAN. That should put some perspective into what this recording should sound like. However, here the playing is acoustic, not manic and bizarre as much of CAN's output, BUT the presence of Kumo on electronics, samplers and other knob twisters, drives things in those territories. The line between composed and spontaneous is blurred, as the man v. machine, drama unfolds in front of a live audience.
