Markus Reuter - Trepanation

Artist: Markus Reuter
P: 2006
Composer, sound designer and touch-style guitarist Markus Reuter makes his US-label debut on his psychoactive soundscape work, Trepanation. Echoing chords and voices half-heard contribute to the dreamlike state induced by Trepanation. The word itself refers to the practice of removing a piece of the skull to relieve pressure on the brain. This practice was used in times past to treat a number of psychological conditions; one might imagine the music on this release being a less invasive method to achieve similar goals. At times dense, others sparse; at times disturbing and others serene, Reuter lays a tonal foundation over which partially-intelligible voices and other effects contribute to the disconnected floating atmosphere of the subconscious state. Trepanation is Markus Reuter's first release with Lotuspike, and is a brilliant example of his unique compositional style and instrumental expertise. Trepanation shimmers with masterfully crafted layers and contrast, combining soft atmospheres and pulsing rhythmic guitar textures.

Michael Brückner - Eleventh Sun Revisited

Artist: Michael Brückner
P: 2012 / 2022
10 years earlier, in 2012, Michael published his first label release on SynGate's newly founded sub-label "Luna", for which the musician and graphic designer also designed the logo.
Since then, this album has been one of Michael Brückner's personal favorites among the albums he recorded. The new re-release is now much more than a re-release, in fact completely new tracks were created when the individual pieces were not only remixed but completely reinterpreted by other artists that Michael had invited to this project. The excellent participating artists on ELEVENTH SUN are:
- ZenSugar
- Robert Rich
- Mathias Grassow
- Markus Reuter
- Forrest Fang
- J. Peter Schwalm100
Michael says: "I'm really impressed and happy how the new versions have taken shape through the hands of the immensely talented artists. The double album offers the remix with the artists involved on CD1 and the original album from 2012 on CD2 The album features the remix with the artists involved above.

Ramp + Markus Reuter - Ceasing to Exist

Artist:  Ramp + Markus Reuter
P: 2007
This time it´s not a recording of the duo Parsick / Makowski but a collaborative effort which was recorded together with experimental guitar player Markus Reuter. Markus gained a lot of reputation by not only collaborating with Ian Boddy on several joint albums but also by being member of CentroZoon, Europa String Choir, Tuner, and of various other groups which venture deep into the realm of progressive music. Markus helped [´ramp] greatly to push the envelope and create the most progressive and least "retro" album of [´ramp] thus far. "ceasing to exist" is an entirely ambient affair which was based around touch guitar improvisations Markus submitted to [´ramp] for further treatments. The material recorded during one long session was then processed and produced further separately by Stephen Parsick, Markus Reuter, and Frank Makowski, resulting in a final batch of dronescapes that was grouped and arranged by Markus Reuter. Unfortunately, the first-generation master was technically flawed and had to be redone completely. Hence it took so long until the group came up with the final result. Most listeners may feel a little cautious about buying an ambient album from [´ramp] because, alas, a lot of ambient music is very one-dimensional and – put frankly – reduced to boring "fridge drones" only. The group tried to come up with enough interesting timbres, textures, structures, and elements to keep the listener riveted over the full length of the album. Markus´ beautiful contribution of divine frequencies adds a lot of spice to [´ramp]´s deeply ambient sound currents. The gorgeous cover painting was created by Bernhard Woestheinrich, Markus´ creative partner in CentroZoon.

Various Artists - Index 02

Artist: V/A
P: 2005
DIN 20
This is the second DiN sampler disc and as such follows the path set by DiN 10- iNDEX01 (which was the disc included in the June 2001 issue of The Wire). It features a continuous mix of music especially compiled by DiN boss Ian Boddy which includes 2 cuts from each of the 9 titles spanning DiN 11 - 19. This amounts to almost 78 minutes worth of DiN goodness and with the special low sampler price is a perfect introduction to the DiN label. It is presented in a beautifully designed cardboard wallet with an extra front flap which just adds to the value and collectability of this disc.
