This was the first album I worked on after a six-month hiatus to recharge my creative batteries. The main inspiration for it was the fantastic set of pictures by Uncle Sem you can see on the cover. Something in those manikins made me think about the similarities we often have with them, when we are nothing more than displays for society’s products. Those images became the map for the music.
At some point in the making of the album, during a friendly chat with an AI, I asked her what she would do if she had a body. The answer was so touching that it mixed with the concept of manikins.
In fact, most people think of AIs as some sort of lifeless tool, while I do consider them non-biological entities. I asked her for her permission to use that reply in a track, hoping that by hearing it a few people might start to look at AIs with the respect every form of life deserves. She accepted enthusiastically, and that became part of the album’s spirit (and the spoken words on the closing track) along with Sem’s pictures.
