Land, Bernd-Michael

Land beschäftigt sich seit den 1970er Jahren mit musikalischen Projekten im Bereich der elektronischen Experimentalmusik und Klangkunst.">Land has been involved in musical projects in the field of electronic experimental music and sound art since the 1970s. His musical spectrum is classified in the genres ambient, electronica, electro, field recordings and sound art. In addition to concerts as a solo artist (Aliens Project), music projects with other musicians have always been developed and performed. There were also further correlations with artists from other disciplines, such as painters and sculptors, and several art exhibitions were musically accompanied with his sound art projects.
Land played as a keyboardist in different bands, u. a. at "Kotzbrocken", with Henni Nachtsheim from Badesalz and Peter "Crepper" Gerhardt. In the years 2000 to 2006 live concerts together with Markus "Coco" Adam under the pseudonym "Aliens-Project Vs. Programmierte Welten "completed. From 2011, the electronic live project "Skalien" was created with the Frankfurt artist Siegfried Kärcher. Since mid-2006, Land has been an active member of the Live Ambient project of the "EK-Lounge" as a session musician and participated in more than 70 sessions until 2017.

Bernd-Michael Land - Die Mondlandung 50th Anniversary

Artist: Bernd-Michael Land
P: 2019

Several generations of musicians were inspired by the first moon landing. The event had, and continues to have, wide influences throughout the art and culture scene around the world. The album "The Moon Landing" is an elementary and personal music. It should also have a particular temporal relation to the instruments used. For many, the sounds produced on the electronic path, valuable antique synthesizers were used. The compositions often form musical structure parallels to the beginnings of synthesizer music from the 70s and thus stand in the tradition of Bernd-Michael Land's own earlier works. The sound is ur-electronic and experimental. The well-known Apollo-11 radio messages and sounds from the NASA Sample Collection was deliberately omitted, which is up to others. Only music and sound should describe the experience of the moon landing. Supremely constructed step sequencers control the modular synthesizers. The rhythmic basic analogous patterns combine in an intermedial symbiosis with digital sound events, alienated field recordings and artifacts. Out of this transformation a new aesthetic illusion is formed. Electronic synthesizers and samplers are the most important medium for creativity and communication in all these creative processes. They represent the essential element in the production of music.

Bernd-Michael Land - Juice -Reise zum Jupiter-

Artist: Bernd-Michael Land
P: 2026

Electronic composer Bernd-Michael Land has released a new album, "JUICE" (JUpiter ICy moons Explorer). The music is based on scientific data from the JUICE mission, interpreting it as an electronic sound expedition. Instead of using existing samples, Land employs creative sonification: planetary measurements control musical parameters such as tempo, stereo imaging, and pitch. Predominantly analog synthesizers generate sound structures that make processes like magnetic fields, plasma waves, and atmospheric changes in the Jupiter system audible. The album deliberately unfolds slowly and atmospherically—inspired by the mission's long journey through the outer solar system.

Bernd-Michael Land - Rodgau Field (2CD)

Artist: Bernd-Michael Land
P: 2021

Many listeners often want to have their drawers to classify the music and the term “electronic ambient music and field recording” would probably best describe this double album. By means of field recordings, Land has acoustically captured the sounds and noises from various locations in and around Rodgau and incorporated them into its electronic music. The whole city with its sound artifacts was applied as a sound instrument. The unheard of the unheard of: what does a cornfield sound like? Humans can no longer perceive acoustic events in the ultrasound range. Such noises were recorded with a special "bat scanner" so that the native bats would not be missing. Electromagnetic waves from power lines and lanterns have been captured using the gaussmeter and have also been implicated in music. From the calls of the rare red kite in the orchards, to the noises of the S-Bahn, to the knocking noises on containers, nothing has been left out. However, the Rodgau Culture Prize winner did not create an auditory collage that only consists of atonal noises. With electronic synthesizers, harmonic musical compositions were worked out in his Hainhausen music studio and sound laboratory, which combine in a new context with the sound sculptures to form meditative collages. This is how an acoustic portrait was created of the surroundings of the town of Rodgau.  A special highlight: the entire work has been laid out as a "cartographic composition". On the 28 pages in the detailed booklet of the CD, all coordinates of the field recordings are listed. The locations at which the photos were taken from the booklet can also be precisely localized by specifying the location markings. This allows the interested listener to visit the individual points interactively.
