Much of Brennan’s music is like moonlight glinting off ripples in a pond. But there is also something darker here. Think of a noisier version of “Chasing the Rain” from 2021. There is an agitated quality to “Wavemaker,” and the interplay between this element and the constancy of Brennan’s familiar sequencer rhythms is fascinating. This restlessness in our psyche eventually gets tired and slows down, but the struggle—like daily life—makes this album a standout among Brennan’s recent releases.
