Erik Wollo - Transit

Artist: Erik Wollo

Melodic electronic music with strong rhythmic elements. But there are also some ambient tracks. A technologic blend of pulsating rhythms, cruising sequencers, and space synths all mixed together. Erik Wøllos most pop-oriented album.

Erik Wollo - Where the River widens

Artist: Erik Wollo
P: 2025

Eleven meditative, atmospheric tracks filled with elegant melodic clarity form Norwegian electronic musician Erik Wøllo’s latest album. The impressionistic, minimalist electric guitar lines are looped and layered with effect pedals for a seamless balance of intimacy and spaciousness. Created and inspired in the valley of Skåbu, Norway, during the late summer of 2024, the 44-minute album is imbued with the spirit of its mountainous surroundings. It captures a slow tranquil intensity preserving spontaneous moments.
Erik reflects: “I was invited to be Artist in Residence at Skåbu in the high-altitude mountains of the Jotunheimen region. For two weeks I focused on creating art, using the facilities to work on woodcuts, linocuts and more. I, of course, brought my guitar and my looping pedals, and was inspired to record a lot of new material which I later refined in my home studio. Everything was performed and composed on the fly. I tried to retain the purity of those initial performances with just a few elements and details added later for a subtly broader expression. Each track is a kind of meditation on stillness and introspection. That could be a metaphor for a slow drift down a calm widening river: a gentle flow, yet filled with life.”
Water and a river’s state of flux can be a metaphor for life’s evolution. When small mountain creeks turn into rivers, then culminate and meet to form a delta, then end in a lake or the ocean. “The delta is where the river widens and where the water is quiet,” Erik notes. “This gave the inspiration and the title for this album. The theme draws inspiration from the mountains and rivers as metaphors for untouched, pure nature existing on its own terms.”
Where the River Widens’ organic expression and sonic texture evoke a seamless fusion of emotion and stillness.

"This is a side project I worked on for several years. Stylistic this music was very different from what I usually released,
so I decided to release it under the pseudonym Exile. Very electronic with both ambient and rhythmic elements.
Sometimes industrial and not very melodic".

Ian Boddy + Erik Wollo - Meridian

Artist: Ian Boddy  & Erik Wollo
P: 2018

LTD 1000 Copies

“Meridian” is the third collaborative project between DiN label boss Ian Boddy & renowned Norwegian composer & guitarist Erik Wøllo. Their previous project was the duos debut release,“Frontiers” (DiN39).
Both Boddy & Wøllo are prolific composers and they bring their wealth of experience to bear on this sophisticated, cinematic release. Playing like a travelogue to an undiscovered land the album opens in suitably haunting fashion with “Uncharted” with it’s fog horn effects shrouded in mist. The next two tracks then emerge from this atmosphere and create what will be the template for this album, a pair of uptempo, melodic pieces interspersed with reflective, slow ambient interludes. The duo effortlessly mix the analogue synth & string textures of Boddy with the intricate interlocking patterns of Wøllo’s guitar, that at times sound like delicate sequencer patterns. The rhythmic tracks slowly build in intensity throughout the album via the charmingly folk inspired tones of “Golden Times” to the climax of “Rescue” with it’s thundering Berlin School inspired bass sequence. The album ends as it began in a cold swirling mist as the fog horn returns to close the album in a suitably mysterious manner. Once again Boddy & Wøllo show their mastery of their craft both as composers and musicians to produce a stunning album full of sonic imagery and beautiful harmonies.

Ian Boddy + Erik Wollo - Revolve

“Revolve” is the fourth collaborative project between DiN label boss Ian Boddy and the acclaimed Norwegian composer and guitarist Erik Wøllo. Their previous two studio albums “Frontiers” (DiN39) and “Meridian” (DiN54) were both very well received. As with their other work together “Revolve” is a continuous sonic journey, with the tracks joined together by slices of sonic ambience and field recordings. Whereas their previous two albums seemed to inhabit the frozen landscapes of the North, this time the duo seem to be exploring warmer climes. The combination of Boddy’s Moog and modular sequencing with Wøllo’s ostinato guitar patterns creates sections that ebb and flow structurally with a beguiling sense of space and freedom. Beautifully ethereal textures give way to pulsing rhythmic sequencers underpinned by solid bass lines and shimmering percussion lines, as evidenced most succinctly on the title track. Over these structures Wøllo’s guitar motifs soar and glide, especially when he uses the EBow to produce a haunting, legato tone colour. The final track “Adiona” sees Boddy joining Wøllo by playing his Ondes Martenot style French Connection keyboard for a stunning duet to close the album.

Certainly cinematic, “Revolve” is a stunning musical travelogue that cries out to be listened to as a whole album and shows the mastery both these composers have in their craft.

Ian Boddy + Erik Wollo - Transmissions
Artist: Ian Boddy + Erik Wollo
P: 2025
DIN 92
LTD 500

Norwegian ambient guitarist Erik Wøllo has become a familiar name to followers of the DiN label as he has previously collaborated with label boss Ian Boddy on three studio albums as well as a couple of releases with Bernhard Wöstheinrich. His other live release with Boddy was from their only concert together so far, “EC12”, from their performance at the Electronic Circus in Germany in 2012. That is, until April 2024, when the Capstone Theatre in Liverpool invited Wøllo to perform alongside Boddy at what would be his UK debut. During the evening at the Capstone each musician played solo sets and then combined on stage to play an electrifying hour long performance mining tracks from their previous two albums “Meridian” (DiN54) and “Revolve” (DiN73). It is this joint concert that forms their new release, “Transmissions” (DiN92). Taking the original pieces as their starting point the duo played reworked and extended versions of these tracks with Wøllo getting the chance to play some wonderful guitar solos that take the music to a whole new level. Meanwhile Boddy used his Eurorack modular system to sculpt and mould the rhythmic sequencers and drums around Erik’s playing, as well as adding his distinctive French Connection Ondes style voicings. The main set was a continuous sonic journey through mystical soundscapes and rhythmic slices of Berlin School sequencing. The final encore track was a rendition of the track “Apogee” from the duos 2022 album “Revolve” (DiN73) with Wøllo playing a blistering guitar solo over Boddy’s heavy, sequenced grooves. This is a real treat for DiN aficionados and a perfect example of how two experienced musicians can take existing material and take it to new emotional heights in a live setting.
