Kraftwerk

Kraftwerk

Kraftwerk is a pioneering and a highly influential electronic music band from Düsseldorf, Germany. The signature Kraftwerk sound combines driving, repetitive rhythms with catchy melodies, mainly following a Western classical style of harmony, with a minimalistic and strictly electronic instrumentation. The group's simplified lyrics are at times sung through a vocoder or generated by computer-speech software. Kraftwerk were one of the first groups to popularize electronic music. In the early to late 1970s and the early 1980s, Kraftwerk's distinctive sound was revolutionary, and it has had a lasting effect across many genres of modern music.

Kraftwerk - Die Mensch-Maschine (Remaster)

Artist: Kraftwerk
P: 1978 / 2009
The Man Machine is in my humble opinion the most perfect Kraftwerk record. Its sound anticipates the Techno movement for almost a decade and was a major influence on the synth pop bands of the early 80's (remember Orchestral Manoeuvres, Human League, etc...). this album also still showed the genuine German romanticism related to the Machine world that thelater albums lacked.
The Model, Neon Lights, etc all clever synth songs that truly show the unquestionable contribution of Kraftwerk to modern music.

Kraftwerk - Electric Cafe (English Version)

Artist: Kraftwerk
P: 1986
Was only familiar with their material up to Computer World. Decided to try this one from 1986 and was very pleasantly surprised. There are a few nominal similarities to Computer World, but this is definetly a more advanced and finely crafted work. Aestetically the sound is wonderful, crystal-clear and still retaining that fat analog sound but using electronic sources (though I think on one track I detected some bass guitar, and maybe even guitar). The Karl Bartos - sung "Telephone Call" is reminiscent of Depeche Mode at it's best. There is much that looks to the future on this, including breakbeat and ambient electronica. Check it out if you like electronic experimental, dance etc. Not a dull moment on this, and a MUST-HAVE for Kraftwerk fans.

Kraftwerk - I was a Robot (2nd Edition)

Artist: Kraftwerk
P: 2003 / 2010
Kraftwerk - I Was A Robot is an insider's story of those turbulent and buoyant times. Wolfgang Flur, the band's drummer spearheaded the genre of synth-pop, creating the worlds first electronic drum machine, whose patent was almost stolen from under him by the bands founder members. When he later discovered that his contribution to their previous material was going unrecognised he found himself in the eye of a bitter whirlwind of acrimony and counter-allegation that culminated in the attempted suppression of this book's publication. Now fully vindicated in the courts, his true story of die Menschmaschine can at last be told.

Kraftwerk - Radio-Activity (Remaster)

Artist: Kraftwerk
P: 1975 / 2009
Kraftwerk built upon the international success of Autobahn by expanding their conceptual conceits to an album-length exploration of radio waves (and the band's other favorite wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum). Musically, the album represents a quantum leap of pop sensibility; though still distinctly a "prog" soundscape, its brilliant melodic hooks (best represented by the title track and "Airwaves") are organized in more traditional--read shorter--form. In tracks such as the minimalist audio-verite "News," Kraftwerk pay homage to another of their musical influences, the great modern composer/theorist Karlheinz Stockhausen. "Antenna" foreshadows the techno-gods they became, with its electronic washes and clever less-is-too-much lyrics, which read, in total: "I'm the antenna catching vibrations; you're the transmitter, give information!" Radio-Activity is an underrated masterpiece waiting to be rediscovered. The musical tracks for the german and the english version are the same, only the CD Cover states different names, but within the songs, both languages can be heard on each version.
