Quiet calling 3, released in an Eco Digipak, is the final chapter of this trilogy. Rising and falling tonal layers fuse into a continuum that seems to lift the listener out of perceptual linearity, expanding space into a perpetual metamorphosis of form. Within its minimalist structure, Chapter 3 weaves intricate complexities that create a weightless veil of vibrating resonance. An amplified silence allows for intimate reflection, evoking both deep peace and a heightened awareness. In the end, the listener returns to the source from which these sounds were born - silence.

This is a breathtaking, beauty. This is such a rich album, rich in sound, styles, feel and emotions... To me, what makes this album an absolute masterpiece is the fact it’s so adventurous: not filled with drone-tracks alone but it’s a wonderful journey with sensitive and deep ambient soundpads, combined with darker drones, sounds, fieldrecordings, watersounds, and the like... it’s just stunning. The feel of it reminds me also a bit of the wonderful Dataobscura-releases... Don’t hesitate: a must-have (again...)

"Norvegia" opens the disc, a low drone bed with occasional sounds overtop, a very beautiful atmospheric piece that brings to mind the Nostromo disc by Sleep Research Facility. Very dark and somewhat ominous, "Norvegia" is inspired in its approach at conjuring a dark atmosphere. The transition into "Arkona" is nearly imperceptible, but as time passes it becomes clear that new elemements have been added to the sound. A haunting call, a deeper drone, we've clearly entered new territory but it all feels to be part of the same journey, a logical step in our travels. "Mercury" flows along in a similar vein, though there is a slightly denser feeling of higher tones and sounds, a slightly more "active" feel to the track. "Astrolabe" shifts the sound considerably, a sudden change to a warmer steady drone which comes across as somehow more inviting. It's an interesting study in aural dynamics, the way the listener hears different elements to the tone as it progresses, nuances in sound that are subtle at first but gain a greater significance as time goes on. After the relative warmth of the previous track, "Fram" brings us back to a particularly cold and dark space, where the feeling of isolation becomes particularly obvious. Other tones are heard on the edges of the soundfield, but nothing so clear that it can be identified or recognized, adding an element of fear to the proceedings that benefits the listening experience. "Aurora" closes the disc, once again returning to a sparse and simple drone, steady, dark, ominous. It ends slowly, quietly, gradually, done in such a way that you don't even notice it's over until it's done.

It should come as no surprise that a collaboration between such notable talents has resulted in such a wonderful disc. I wholeheartedly recommend "North Passage" by Nautic Depths as an excellent release that bears further investigation.

"Nuur" is the Mongolian word for "lake" and this project has its roots in regional myths about the many deep lakes in that country. Focusing on Dark Ambient, this project explores vast Atmospheres and dense sound sculptures. By merging elements from other genres, a broad range of variations is explored. "Nuur" has also been inspired by the extreme temperature fluctuations between the Mongolian winter and summer (from -58 to +47 degrees Celsius), adding another dimension to the music.

"Zeitlos" is a pure ambient album by Tomas Weiss, following several collaborations and audio engineering / mastering roles on other artists' albums over the past 7 years. Almost a year in progress, this album is an extension of Weiss' characteristic sound, which you may recognize in all the previous projects he has been involved in. From minimal but highly emotional drones to rich walls of sound, each title consists of subtle movements embedded in a colourful bed of several tone layers. Tomas' aim was to create an exceptionally warm-sounding album you can repeatedly listen to in situations requiring a "mental calmness" without cold / noisy tones or a harsh overall sound. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered with analog equipment to retain the unique sound delivered by non-digital hardware. Feeling "Zeitlos" ("Timeless" in English) is doubtlessly a desirable state of mind for most if not all of us when searching for personal rest... and that's what the album is made for!
