Mac of BIOnight - Radiation

Artist: Mac of BIOnight
P: 2013
Old and vintage sounding Berlin School music, with a lot of Mellotronsounds and an environment that sounds like 1974.
This album is the second in a series of three works in Berlin School Music style. It's not really a trilogy, but they are tightly connected.
The album I recorded before this trilogy was called "The end of an era". I perceived things were about to change in my life, and that album expressed all of my confusion and lack of direction. "Secluded," "Radiation" and the album that will follow were recorded while things were actually changing and I was, in a way, losing - or shedding - my previous life.

Mac of BIOnight - Secluded

Artist: Mac of BIOnight
P: 2013
This album is the first in a series of three works in Berlin School music style (the kind of electronic music created in the 70's by Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze in Germany). It's not really a trilogy, but they are tightly connected.

Mac of BIOnight - Silent Seas

Artist: Mac of BIOnight
P: 2007
I composed and recorded this album in just two weeks after over two months of no music making at all. Lots of things were going on inside of me during those months; still, whenever I sat down in front of my instruments to record something for my various musical projects, nothing came out. At one point I just stopped trying.
Then I finally realized that what I had to turn into music were those vast and silent seas of emotions that I was carrying around inside of me during that period, nothing else would have been right or expressed my real feelings. When I finally understood that, this album came out spontaneoulsy, with no hesitation.
Those silent waves became sound, at last.

Mac of BIOnight - Sleep

Artist: Mac of BIOnight
P: 2010
I've always had a very conflictual relationship with sleep. My natural sleep/wake cycle is the opposite of most people, as I go to sleep at 5.00 or 6.00 am and get up at 2.00 pm, more or less. That makes things very difficult in a society whose waking hours are very different. It is not just that, though. Nightmares (I mean terryfing way beyond description ones) were an issue for many years. Now they have disappeared, but I still have some quite interesting bad dreams and agitated nights of not-exactly sleep. Insomnia is yet another problem that plagues my nights now and then, often triggered by occasionally having to get up in the morning, and even more often by worries and looping thoughts. However, sleep is also the place where I find the solutions that escape me during my waking hours. And, above all, it is a condition/mechanism that fascinates and scares me deeply. I came up with the concept behind this album in 1995, even if I had probably been thinking about it for many years. I only composed one definitive track, though, which I have re-made now (track no 1 on this album). It sounds quite different from the original, of course, because now I am a very different person (I'm writing this in 2010). However, even if I wouldn't record it in the same way today, I have decided to include the original 1995 recording as a bonus track, as I think it still has something to say. I made it with the only instrument I had back then (a Roland D5) and by bouncing audiocasettes one track at a time. Anyway, the music on this album faithfully represents part of what sleep is to me today and what my nights are like...

Mac of BIOnight - Strange Lands Vol. 1

Artist: Mac of BIOnight
P: 2010
This is actually an album in two parts, mostly in Berlin School style, but also influenced by many other kinds of electronic music. This is only the second double album I've made (the other one being "Tales of bodies and souls") as I normally avoid this kind of project, but it just kept growing and couldn't stop it.
It was all kind of odd, down to when I finally managed to split the pieces between the two volumes after days spent finding the right sequences of tracks and realized that the difference in duration between the two albums was a mere three seconds! I hadn't planned that at all, and if I had tried to do it intentionally, I probably wouldn't have made it.
Music choosing its own direction, uncannily similar album lengths, is that it?
Anyway, here they are now - enjoy!

Mac of Bionight - Tales of Bodies and Souls 1

Artist: Mac of BIOnight
P: 2006 /2009
Divided into two Parts. This is the EM Classics series!
I called this series of albums "Classic Electronic Music" because they find their origins in the classic EM of the 70's, especially that of German musicians such as Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, etc. This genre has been given many names over the years - cosmic music, krautrock, and more - but it is now generally called "Berlin School".
Please don't expect an imitation of the bands I mentioned above, as I obviously put into my music what comes out of my soul and even if I chose to use this form of expression I have no interest in being a clone. So, yes, it is Berlin School.

Mac of BIOnight - The Eleventh Planet

Artist: Mac of BIOnight
P: 2013
Musically, "The Eleventh Planet" is mostly cheerful music, and a sort of spiritual tribute to Jean Michel Jarre's early albums here and there, as well as to some early Kraftwerk music. Everything is purely mine, anyway, so you know what to expect ;-) It is, in general, a very optimistic and uplifting work.
As to what is behind the music... I hate winter, I hate cold weather. When summer comes, it's as if my soul came back to life, and I feel I really exist. So, quite obviously, summer and warm weather in general are to me the symbols of serene and happy times. This album is dedicated to all the sunny days of my life.
Listen to it in the sun, if you can, and enjoy!

Mac of BIOnight - The Last City

Artist: Mac of BIOnight
P: 2009
This sci-fi apocalyptic tale begins, appropriately enough, at "The Beginning," a swirling moody piece that sets the tone for the story.
The title track is bright and majestic befitting the theme. Despite the dark subject matter, this mellow track has Mac's characteristic bouncy upbeat rhythm and melody.
"Endless Rain" features a funky little bass line and a nice vintage synth lead. Bright piano complements the mood as well.
"Transition" has a similar vibe for a while, but then gets really rocking at the end.
Nicely contrasting this is "Null," with ominous male choirs, dark airy synths, and drums playing in the background like a processional. A nice little sequence picks up the pace midway through although the tone remains subdued.
"Street of Survivors" begins as a quirky experimental piece with samples that form the most unusual percussion, though it eventually moves back into familiar melodious Mac territory.
"Crumbling Buildings" is the longest and best track, a fantastic retro outing with a steady backbeat, warm synth pads, and perfectly restrained sequencing.
"Zareth" sounds like Vangelis, ending the disc with a regal flourish.

Mac of BIOnight - The River and the Railroad

Artist: Mac of BIOnight
P: 2014
A couple of years ago I saw a fantastic photo by my uncle and photography teacher Domenico "Sem" Semeraro and a whole album (Weather Changes) instantly formed in my mind. I recorded it and obtained his permission to use his photo for the cover. After some time, he sent me another photo, and again an album (Fabric) composed itself in my mind, I only had to record it. That's how our ongoing collaboration started, and what you can listen to now is but one of the results. The great picture you can see on the cover immediately generated this album in my head; it was both the mental map and the musical score for it. It’s a work I’m very happy with, a new kind of music for me, and it was a lot of fun to make. Very special thanks to Sem for his fundamental help and contribution (and for coming up with the album’s title)!

This is a classical Berlin School style release. Sequences and sounds come right away from Ricochet in that 1975 era. Mellotron flutes and vintage analogue arpeggios do the rest.
