Mac of BIOnighT - A Different Ground OSC Vol. 2

Artist: Mac of BIOnighT
P: 2010
OSC (One Synth Challenge) is an interesting competition held for the community of a forum - KVR - dedicated to electronic instruments and especially plug-ins, also known as "VST's" or virtual instruments and effects. The " challenge " the name refers to is that of creating a whole track using exclusively a free plug-in instrument for everything, from melody to drums. A handful of plug-in effects is allowed, providing that they are free and currently available. All this may sound easy, but it isn't. Still, the challenge is attracting a growing number of partecipants who are willing to put their programming and musical skills to the test. All members of the forum can vote, and there are prizes for the winners. However, winning is not the main goal, as the challenge is such a learning experience and a great way for any musician to hone his skills that the whole thing is a reward in itself. Winning does feel good, though, and I had the pleasure of winning the 22nd edition, once again with a GTG synth. V'ger has recently taken the helm, as Tattiemannie - who directed the previous editions - started going thru a very busy period. Thanks to both of them for the great work! Anyway, this is the second collection of the tracks I entered in the competitions, enjoy!

Mac of BIOnighT - A Different Sky OSC Vol. 1

OSC (One Synth Challenge) is an interesting competition held by Fred "Tattiemannie" Wilkinson for the community of a forum - KVR - dedicated to electronic instruments and especially plug-ins, also known as "VST's" or virtual instruments and effects. At the time of writing this, I've taken part in five OSC's, and this album collects the tracks I entered in the competitions. I only won once and yes, winning does feel good, but I had an equal amount of fun on each and every One Synth Challenge. So, a big thank you to Tattiemannie for being such a great host and all the hard work he puts into this, thanks to all the generous people who donate fantastic prizes for the winners (as I said, winning feels good and the prizes make it way better ;-) and, finally, thanks to all the other guys at KVR who make this such a pleasant and fun experience!

Mac of BIOnight - A Fake Live Album

Artist: Mac of BIOnight
P: 2007
The internet has given people the chance to find out the truth behind many things. The fact that fans could exchange information and bootleg recordings throughout the planet has allowed them to realize that most (all?) of the "live" albums we've loved over the years were not exactly live after all... Many were more or less heavily edited, others mixed live parts with studio recordings, others were even almost entirely re-performed and re-recorded in the studio. And mind: we're talking big names here, not unknown musicians! Of course, this is pretty disapponting, not because it's important that a musician can play his music live (it is not, not from my point of view), but because the fans' trust was betrayed. Besides, having listened to several of these bootleg recordings, I can say there was no reason at all for this: most of the music I heard was so much more emotional and exciting than what went onto the official releases! I just don't get it. Anyway, one day I was listening to one of those fake "live" records and - while enjoying it as I always had - I also felt a bit angry. I thought, "Well, anybody can make a live record that way!" And that's when I had this silly idea: I was going to make a fake live album, too, but I was going to say it was fake right on the cover. So, here it is, my fake live album. MAC
The music is brilliant, many different titles offer us the real live feeling as we always wanted it. Berlin School style and some more melodic tracks like TD at the beginning of the 80ies.

This album came about thanks to the amazing and amazingly inspiring virtual instruments created by Elektrostudio (Poland).
It was, in fact, entirely recorded using solely the VST plug-in pack that its absolutely brilliant and generous developer - Robert - made available for free and that were later updated by Grzegor.
Different musicstyles show all the possibilities of these virtual synthesizers within the PC.

Mac of BIOnight - Ancient Machines

Artist: Mac of BIOnight
P: 2017
This album is the second chapter of the story and musical concept that began with "Future Rain," my album from 2013 entirely recorded with Tone2's great software synthesizer "Rayblaster". Four years later (I'm writing this in 2017), here's its sequel, entirely recorded using the new and improved version of the same instrument, "Rayblaster 2". Some of the sounds I designed for this album are also part of the synth's factory bank. Once again, the musical style is that of electronic movie soundtracks from the 80's. A huge thank you to Tone2's Markus Krause for developing such inspirational and amazing instruments!

Mac of BIOnight - Another Season

The six tracks in one go offer a lot of good Berlin School stuff. Within the long tracks you can find sequences, that remind perfect to the Departure from the Northern Wasteland CD by Hoenig. Very good and versatile.

Mac realises many different sounds with a slight experimental touch.
In the end the sounds dissapear in cool retro Berlin School style sequences.

Mac of BIOnighT - Black Light

Artist: Mac of BIOnighT
P: 2006
I wrote this album to let out all the pain and confusion I was feeling during a very difficult time of my life - music's always helped keep me sane...
I turned into music my feeling of not being adequate to this world; the shock of seeing the horrors human beings can perpetrate when I saw some documentaries on nazism and realized that the very same kinds of things still go on in many parts of the world, even if on a smaller scale and under different names; the accident I had at the beginning of 2005 with a chainsaw that split one side of my face in half, and the notion that some scars carve pain deeper into us and are harder to cure than those of the body; the desire for bad times as hard as a winter to end; my attempts at understanding some of the things that were going on around and inside of me; the loneliness I felt in that place where nobody could reach me; the feeling that all was wrong; my willingness to do all it took to straighten things out; and the sensation that sometimes in life even light seems to be black...

Mac of BIOnight - Cosmic Crossroads

Artist: Mac of BIOnight
P: 2010
At the end of 2009 I felt like I was at a crossroads. No big decisions to make, but a lot of small ones that were necessary to make my life a bit easier and a bit better. At the same time, I also had a strong urge to escape from reality, to be with myself only and use my ability to imagine things and places, to fly away from a number of things that I often perceive as suffocating. I guess the two things somehow mixed, and the result is this album.

The music is melodic sequenzerbased traditional Berlin School style with vintage sounds.
With a little wink to the french synthesizermusic from the 70ies.

Mac of BIOnight - Everyday Life

Artist: Mac of BIOnight

Here Mac plays brilliant tracks using only virtual Synthesizers by a danish developer.
The music is based in the late 70s, early 80s with some tracks sounding like Sequenzen ohne Grenzen by Joerg Strawe or even Tangerine Dreams melodic phase.
This album was recorded using exclusively the beautiful virtual instruments created by Mik Sybrandt, which you can download for free from his website GTG Synths (Denmark).

This album is the last in a series of three works in Berlin School music style (the kind of electronic music created in the 70's by Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze in Germany). It's not really a trilogy, but they are tightly connected.

Macs many albums are divided into "series," more or less based on genres or underlying concepts. One of them is this (Classic EM, that is), dedicated to Berlin School/Cosmic classic electronic music. Some tracks belonging to this genre, however, can be found on other albums of mine in other series. He decided to include them in these two collections so that those of you who only follow his Classic EM series will not miss them. Of course, feel free to check out the original albums they come from!

Here Mac was inspired in his sci-fi series of the films of the 80s. A cool atmosphere with many effects on floating pads. Enriched with melodies that could have come from the former films. Well done.

Mac of BIOnight - Genesis Of Alpha Nebula

Artist: Mac of BIOnight
P: 2010
This album is a tribute to a certain kind of psychedelic rock, and especially to the very first experimental albums by Tangerine Dream, as experts can tell from the title, but not only.
Finally, I stumbled across a vst instrument - an electric organ simulation called "Wurler" (created by Scott A. Root) that is just fantastic and absolutely perfect to recreate the organ sound(s) from that era - that gave me all the vibes I needed to start the project (you can hear it on every track, even when it doesn't sound like an organ ). I wanted this album to sound as if it had been badly recorded in the early 70's by a bad engineer on drugs, performed by a bad band on LSD in the form of total and bad improvisation, all badly saturated, badly distorted and badly sounding, down to the horrible tape noise, and transferred to CD today with basically no remastering at all. I'm against drugs and normally I'd try to have my music sound good, so why all this? Well, first off, my passion for that kind of music. Second, it was a pretty interesting experiment, soundwise. But, above all, that is the way I was feeling at the time of recording this album: badly improvised, badly saturated and distorted, badly recorded and with a lot of bad tape noise... Life, I guess.

An Abundance of old Berlin School style sequences mixed with the vintage sounds of the 70ies. Mac here on his own musical way knows to catch that old feeling of the retro style.
The 6 tracks also blend some guitar and light melodies within their tracks.
