Mac - Explophonia Vol. 1

Artist: Mac
P: 2019
The list of virtual instruments that Mac uses here speaks for itself. Such an amount of real synthesizers would exceed the size of many a studio. But that has nothing to do with what Mac gets out of these different synthesizers. The result is a Berlin school trip with very rhythmic lines, by a musician who deals very intensively with the design and composition of this music every day.

Virtual instruments used on this record:

Icarus 2 (Tone2)
Nemesis (Tone2)
Firebird (Tone2)
Saurus (Tone2)
Cadencia (Contralogic)
Oberon 8 (Land of Cockaigne)
Drum Synze (Long Sound)
Trans Computer Machine 2 (Cescato)
Monolisa (NB Audio)
Easy Mr Stringer (Easy Toolz)
Pro Solo vst (AM Music Technology)
NK 1001 (GTG)
Charlatan (BlauKraut Engineering)
MiniMogue (Volt Kitchen Group)
Shortcircuit (Vember Audio)
OBXD (Discodsp)
JX10 (MDA)
MT Power drumkit 2 (Manda Audio)
Kontakt player 5 (Native Instruments)
Drumatic 3 (E-phonic)
Sinthecyza 4.0 (Sonic Assault)
Wurler (SAR)

What you are buying here is the first chapter of a new super-hero comic book created by me and called "Guardians of the Blue" and a special compilation of music that accompanies it.
This compilation is a possible soundtrack to this first chapter.
If you legally bought this compilation here on Bandcamp, you will find the instructions to download this comic book in its digital form (PDF) with the album, along with detailed instructions to print it out, should you wish to do so.
This compilation is actually a way to support the continuation of this story...

Mac - In a Still Sky

Artist: Mac
P: 2020
This album came out spontaneously in one day, while the world was quarantined and everything was still. The photo on the cover guided it and represents it perfectly.
The music builds up slowly and ends up in a beautiful sounding system of wide areas.

Berlin School Spacemusic with sequences and the reverbed sounds, that makes the right planetary feeling for spacetravels. Sounds a little bit like Departure from the Northern Wasteland by Michael Hoenig.

Mac - Justice

Artist: Mac of BIOnight
P: 2007
Mac often wonders if justice really exists...
Not the justice of man and his laws, that's flawed and irrelevant.
I'm talking about some kind of superior justice, some cosmic justice that truly protects and helps those who deserve it...
How often do we see good people go and bad people stay?
How often do we see the innocent and loving ones being punished by fate or whatever it is, while those who don't care about anybody but themselves scurry around free and ready to hurt once more?
If this sounds obvious and cheap to you, well, trust me: it doesn't when you experience it, like so many good people do every day...
Justice... is that asking for too much?
I came up with the basic concept for this album in 1996.
For several reasons, though, the right time to record it only came in 2005/2006, almost ten years later.
Now it finally exists outside of my mind, too...

In the past few months I've been listening to many records from the late 60's to the very early 80's and I was struck – once more - by how much they could accomplish with so little and primitive gear at their disposal. I therefore felt the urge to record something using simple sounds and simple effects, mostly emulations of what was available then. Also, in the late 60's multitrack recording was limited to four (and later eight) tracks. I chose to impose on myself the same limit, so every piece on this album was recorded using a maximum of eight tracks (mostly four, though), as opposed to the twenty or thirty I normally use.
This is certainly not the first time I go back to early recording methods and atmospheres, as it always has a sort of purifying effect on me and it's fun. Lack of limitations is rarely as much fun...
Working on this album made me feel well, I hope it'll have the same effect on you when you listen to it

Incredible, what Mac gets out of his synthesizers.
This CD is just a spacewalk back into the seventies long sequencertracks environments.

This album was entirely recorded using solely Tone2’s software synthesizer “Saurus,” created by Markus Krause, and the soundset I made for it called “Spacewalker”.

A Berlin School cake with some psychedelic icing...
Old and vintage sounding Berlin School music, with a lot of Mellotronsounds and an environment that sounds like end of the 70s.

Mac of BIOnighT - A Different Ground OSC Vol. 2

Artist: Mac of BIOnighT
P: 2010
OSC (One Synth Challenge) is an interesting competition held for the community of a forum - KVR - dedicated to electronic instruments and especially plug-ins, also known as "VST's" or virtual instruments and effects. The " challenge " the name refers to is that of creating a whole track using exclusively a free plug-in instrument for everything, from melody to drums. A handful of plug-in effects is allowed, providing that they are free and currently available. All this may sound easy, but it isn't. Still, the challenge is attracting a growing number of partecipants who are willing to put their programming and musical skills to the test. All members of the forum can vote, and there are prizes for the winners. However, winning is not the main goal, as the challenge is such a learning experience and a great way for any musician to hone his skills that the whole thing is a reward in itself. Winning does feel good, though, and I had the pleasure of winning the 22nd edition, once again with a GTG synth. V'ger has recently taken the helm, as Tattiemannie - who directed the previous editions - started going thru a very busy period. Thanks to both of them for the great work! Anyway, this is the second collection of the tracks I entered in the competitions, enjoy!

Mac of BIOnighT - A Different Sky OSC Vol. 1

Artist: Mac of BIOnighT

OSC (One Synth Challenge) is an interesting competition held by Fred "Tattiemannie" Wilkinson for the community of a forum - KVR - dedicated to electronic instruments and especially plug-ins, also known as "VST's" or virtual instruments and effects. At the time of writing this, I've taken part in five OSC's, and this album collects the tracks I entered in the competitions. I only won once and yes, winning does feel good, but I had an equal amount of fun on each and every One Synth Challenge. So, a big thank you to Tattiemannie for being such a great host and all the hard work he puts into this, thanks to all the generous people who donate fantastic prizes for the winners (as I said, winning feels good and the prizes make it way better ;-) and, finally, thanks to all the other guys at KVR who make this such a pleasant and fun experience!
