Gleisberg, Rüdiger

He (b. 1963) studied Music and Literature at the University of Paderborn. Having studied Classical guitar, he began playing in various Rock bands at school, and then switched to Keyboards, fascinated by the instrument's range of expression and sounds. This attraction to working with Keyboards and Synthesizers led to his building a small recording studio, which has meanwhile expanded into a modern digitally-equipped studio. His first compositions were commissioned for Theatre productions, and signalled the beginning of the development of his now clearly recognisable style, to be found in his music for Films, numerous releases of his own material, together with joint projects. Rüdiger Gleisberg works as a Music teacher. He writes commissioned pieces, and has worked under the name SOLITAIRE (together with Elmar Schulte). A joint project with Mathias Grassow and Carsten Agthe resulted in the NOSTALGIA album. Rüdiger Gleisberg - for over ten years this name has stood for remarkable creativity and out of the ordinary Instrumental music.

Nostalgia - Beyond Horizon

Artist: Nostalgia
P: 2007
Nostalgias 3rd album again shows the band in another light. It is an instrumental album in electronic style, where Grassows "spiritual ambient" drones and Gleisbergs classical orchestra-sounds are melded together in a perfect melange of surprising and tenseful ethno-electronica.

Peter Mergener - Mare Nostrum

Artist: Peter Mergener & Friends
P: 2020

MARE NOSTRUM is the Latin term for our sea. As a free continuation of the music for the mystical night of bread and games in Trier (composed especially for it at the time: Nox Mystica and Vitam aut Mortem), this album was created on the theme of our sea. It appears again under the project name Mergener et Amici, and once again highly esteemed musicians have participated. Mare Nostrum is also the name of the supercomputer that is installed in the Torre Girona church in Barcelona and that creates calculations for research worldwide. The ocean as the origin of all life and man as the highest earthly form of life and his creativity find a mystical musical combination here. Mergener et Amici means mergener and friends: Alquimia, Rüdiger Gleisberg, Michael Wald and Anton Zinkl contributed.

Samadhi was written in 1988 after experiencing a session in an isolation tank (published by Biocybernetic).
Initiation Ritual (first Version of Initiation Ceremony/BAKTUN) and Erotica Exotica complete this work.

Rüdiger Gleisberg - Damiana

Artist: Rüdiger Gleisberg
P: 1997
The little shrub “Damiana” (Tumera diffusa) is found in Mexico and South America. There it is very popular not only for its yellow-orange blossoms and its beguilling fragrance: First of all “Damiana” is the plant of love. It consumed as tea or substitute for tobacco it develops an aphrodisiac and mentally stimulating effect.
“Damina” also inspired German composer Gleisberg to the concept behind his new album: This is the musical expression of his pantheistic philosophy of life, his universal love to people, animals and plants. Gleisberg’s love of nature is also reflected in the classically trained musicians sensitive and multi-faceted compositions.
The unique style and sound of Gleisberg has developed over a period of ten years, duringwhich he has released several internationally acclaimed solo-albums, written movie-soundtracks and played with groups such as SOLITAIRE and ARCANUM. In his music symphonic structures, orchestral soundscapes, romatic moods and tender folky touches blend into a harmonic unity.
With “Damiana” Gleisberg once more offers an album for connoisseurs of electronic instrumental music.

Rüdiger Gleisberg - Fragile Fairytales

Artist: Rüdiger Gleisberg
P: 2001
After his first two albums for Prudence, "Damiana (1997), which was hailed a "masterpiece" by the press, and the romantic "Elysium" (1999), classically trained composer and music educator Rüdiger Gleisberg offers the world an album, on wich he lifts his totally unique, multifaceted and extremely sensual personal style to a new peak.
Gleisberg, who even succeeded in Hollywood with his soundtrack contributions to the blockbuster movie "Blade", creates in his tracks a new kind of modern electronic chamber music, which combines the lush beauty of the baroque era with contemporary achievements. On the other hand, the deeply spiritual and sensual music on "Fragile Fairytales" is miles away from the sterile and sometimes depressive coolness of many trendy electronic music releases. In his rare interviews Gleisberg, aged 36, sometimes refers to Tangerine Dreams, Vangelis oder Yes as the heroes of his youth and his musical idols, but observers from outside often find influences of Philipp Glass oder Roger Eno in his style. But most of all Gleisberg is a rare and precious original in a world of soundalikes.

After the recordings, Ludmilla Karetzkaja, 1st violoncellist of the Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra of Odessa said:
"It was a totally new and very interesting experience recording those pieces. I never would have thought that contemporary music from Germany could be that emotional. I feel honoured to have been allowed being a part of this recording.
This is a very symphonic/orchestrated music.
