Deep Imagination - Awareness

Artist: Deep Imagination
P: 2010

On the third album of his solo project Deep Imagination German composer/producer Thorsten Sudler-Mainz, known as founder of Art Of Infinity, offers a very special brand of modern Electronica. While the first two albums of Deep Imagination were dominated by mature Ambient music, on “Awareness” the listener is surprised by archaic rhythms and sounds. The ten tracks deal with diverse facets of human consciousness. “Awareness” is instrumental electronic music, which finds a totally unique musical language – and sounds beautifully “warm” and sensual at the same time! Extraordinary, ambitious Electronica between Art Rock and Trip Hop.

Deep Imagination - Carefully kept Secrets

Artist: Deep Imagination
P: 2017

"Carefully Kept Secrets" is the fourth album of DEEP IMAGINATION, the solo project of Art Of Infinity founder Thorsten Sudler-Mainz. In terms of content, it is about our dreams, the preservation of secrets and the search for solutions that everyone has to find for himself. Amongst others Ann Kareen Mainz (vocals), Günter Kaufmann (guitars) and US percussionist Byron Metcalf feature as guests.

The result is an ambient production, spiced with Pink Floydian elements and ethereal choir, with which DEEP IMAGINATION takes its sound to a new, complex level.

Deep Imagination - Dancing with Ghosts

Artist: Deep Imagination

The captivating composition from Thorsten Sudler-Mainz blends Ambient, Art Rock and Gothic elements. Through the musical metaphors we are led by inner spirits which we can't deny. The new single featuring the brilliant guest guitarist Günter Kaufmann and the three backing vocals of Ann Kareen Mainz, Tanja Bamberg and Oda Reiter, has been mixed by Thorsten Rentsch (Art Of Infinity) in Renaissance Studio Cologne. As an extra with the "Dancing With Ghosts (chillout version)" and "La Luna (b-side)", there are also two non-album tracks.

Deep Imagination - Gemstones

Artist: Deep Imagination
P: 2008
Gemstones is the second coup of DEEP IMAGINATION. The new album is coming up with four magical live versions, two brilliant remixes and brand-new music like the 15 minutes long track Gemstones, which sounds like emanated from a stalactite cave. Thorsten Sudler-Mainz, mastermind of DEEP IMAGINATION, got the idea for this track while shooting photos of Gemstones on a visit to a museum. The guest musicians Thorsten Rentsch, bass and percussion, and Stefan Höllering, electro-saxophone, perform once again on this long track.
The latter is brilliant at a medley of Art Of Infinity with a soulful live performed Tenor Saxophone on this new album too. The release includes a Bonus-DVD, which is also available as a single copy. The substance is an animated video clip of the new track Planetary System and the magical 13-minutes long concert film Live at Satzvey Castle 2005.

Deep Imagination - Live at Electronic Circus Festival

Artist: Deep Imagination
P: 2011

With the 4-track "Live at Electronic Circus Festival" Deep Imagination Mastermind Thorsten Sudler-Mainz releases the core parts of their celebrated performance at the Electronic Circus Festival in Bielefeld in September 2010. On this recording the magic atmosphere of this highly acclaimed gig in the packed club "Movie" is vividly captured. There is a thrilling feel throughout the set, from the gentle electronics at the beginning to classic art rock in the mould of Pink Floyd. With "The Dragons Flight" German Keyboardist Sudler-Mainz together with his guests Thorsten Rentsch (keyboard, guit., perc.) and Stefan Höllering (tenor- and electro saxophone) also presents a tune from the repertoire of his other band Art Of Infinity. Additionally "Live at Electronic Circus Festival" offers unique live-versions of tracks like "Clouds", "Sense" and (in the encore) "Breath-Space" from 2010s successful Deep Imagination album "Awareness".

Deep Imagination - My Silent Celebration

Artist: Deep Imagination
P: 2020

The fifth album of Deep Imagination comprises eight tracks, which mastermind Thorsten Sudler-Mainz produced in loving detail in the band's own studio near Frankfurt am Main. The album title "My Silent Celebration" is symbolic of the power of creativity. You can hear on this album how much heart and soul was put into every single second of this production.
In addition to well-known guests, new guest musicians such as singer Torsten "Hardy" Hartmann or guitarist Achim von Raesfeld were integrated into the atmospheric sound cosmos of Deep Imagination. Pieces like the melodic opener "In My Memory", the hymnic "Longing For Peace", the gothic reminiscence "Coming From The Cold" or the progressive ambient long track "Burning Sun" make this album perhaps the strongest output of Deep Imagination so far.
Sudler-Mainz presents a work that pays homage to the formative influences of acts like Dead Can Dance, Pink Floyd or Depeche Mode. With an imaginative brew of Tribal-Ambient Soundscapes, Ethereal-Goth and Artrock, "My Silent Celebration" is a work spanning album, on which the musician spans an arc from his beginnings in the 80s to the here and now.

Deep Imagination - Scapes

Artist: Deep Imagination
P: 2005

Thorsten Sudler-Mainz is the leading light behind Deep Imagination, names I was hitherto unfamiliar with. Sudler-Mainz, keyboards and programming, is joined by other musicians such as Thorsten Rentsch on guitar to produce an agreeable concoction of instrumentals with each track ending in 'scape'. The initial piece, 'Moonscape' , begins with suitably cosmic treatments evoking a sense of wonder providing an ideal soundtrack for moongazing or planetarium. Subtle and minimalist guitar contributions are added and the overall effect is atmospheric and melodic without overtly using recognisable melodies. 'Timescape' begins in impressionistic vein before percussion and an oriental-sounding theme give this piece a little more structure than other pieces. 'Colourscape' features Rentch's guitar, bass and percussion as well as a little extra colour added by Stefan Hollering on electro - saxophone. The track has a light, airy, and thanks to the electro-saxophone, jazzy feel.
'Mountainscape' again features guitar, here sounding not unlike a minimalist Mike Oldfield, to accompany the languid, meditative electronics which drift to a dreamy and peaceful conclusion. 'Fogscape' is a little more sinister and reminded me, at times, of the great Robert Fox , in terms only of the atmosphere evoked and subtle deployment of texture but a much more minimalist affair than its predecessors. 'Oceanscape' works hard to create atmospheres but despite its obvious cinematic template I found the bass synth a tad predictable and overall the track struggles to make an impact. 'Sunscape' is a return to earlier form with cosmic synths slowly building over a distant rumbling bass and with more minimalist guitar contributions. Music to accompany the birth of a star or a solar eclipse, rare events in the firmament above my hometown of Southport but an ideal soundtrack if such cosmic events occur. Finally. 'Mindscape' is a fine meditative, drifting, piece suitable for relaxing and unwinding after a hard day's toil, not exactly demanding but the overall effect is pleasing. The electro-saxophone makes a welcome re-appearance to add some sonic variation with the guitar joining the mix.
